Basic seminars - FAQ (incl. BR360° seminar package)

What does "basic knowledge for works councils" mean?

Basic knowledge for works councils includes the legal, practical, and organizational knowledge that an elected body needs in order to perform its tasks in a legally compliant and effective manner. This includes topics such as works constitution law, labor law, communication, chairing meetings, and basic business management concepts.

Why are basic seminars important for works councils?

Basic seminars provide the necessary foundation for works council members to understand their rights and obligations, apply procedures correctly, and act confidently in their everyday work. They strengthen decision-making skills and provide lasting preparation for practical challenges.

Who is the BR360° seminar package suitable for?

The BR360° seminar package is ideal for:

  • Newly elected works council members without prior legal knowledge.
  • Members who want to deepen their basic knowledge.
  • Committees seeking practical confidence in their actions.

It is structured in such a way that beginners are guided step by step, while advanced learners are given practical case studies.

Who is the annual course suitable for?

The annual course is suitable for works council members who want to become systematically and structurally fit for their position within twelve months. It is particularly useful for newly elected members who want to quickly gain confidence, as well as for committed members who want to take on responsibility in the committee. It is ideal for anyone who does not want to “piecemeal” individual seminars, but is looking for a clearly defined learning path with a common thread. The annual course covers all the relevant basics of works constitution law and labor law, building on them step by step. In short: for anyone who wants to become competent in their role in a structured, predictable, and straightforward manner.

Do you need prior knowledge to take part in the basic seminars?

No. The basic seminars are designed so that even works council members without prior legal knowledge can easily get started and at the same time build up practical skills.

Who bears the costs?

In principle, the necessary costs for works council members to attend seminars are covered by the employer in accordance with Section 40 of the Works Constitution Act (BetrVG). However, the works council must ensure that no unnecessary costs are incurred, i.e. that the costs are reasonable. The range of costs includes seminar fees, travel expenses, accommodation, meals, and continued payment of remuneration for the duration of participation.

Do you receive proof or a certificate?

Yes. Upon completion of the modules, you will receive a certificate of participation documenting the content, learning objectives, and duration—useful for your personnel file and to legitimize your qualification as a works council member.
